Trash Cans & Waste Receptacles

Commercial trash cans give you the heavy-gauge body, larger capacity, and lid mechanism that holds up under daily janitorial duty. You get powder-coated steel or stainless that wipes clean fast and a liner ring that hides the bag from view. Household cans crack, dent, and fall apart within months once they see real commercial traffic. If your building sees daily foot traffic and a cleaning crew emptying bins on schedule, do not gamble on a residential can that was never built for the job.

Commercial trash cans run 7 to 55 gallons. Under-desk personal cans land at 7 to 13 gallons, lobby and corridor cans at 15 to 23 gallons, breakroom and kitchen cans at 23 to 40 gallons, and dock or outdoor cans at 35 to 55 gallons. Pick your size against how often your janitorial crew actually empties bins, not just the square footage of the room, and you will avoid overflowing cans by Wednesday. Undersized cans in high-traffic zones create more work for your cleaning staff than the few extra dollars for a bigger can ever would.

You can grab powder-coated steel for indoor lobbies and corridors, stainless steel for kitchens and restrooms, HDPE plastic for impact-prone zones, wire mesh for outdoor smoking areas, or decorative wood-panel veneer for executive lobbies. Stainless is your strongest bet when you want the cleanest wipe-down and a finish that still looks sharp after a year of daily use. Match the material to the room and you will not be replacing cans every other year because the finish gave out under regular cleaning chemicals or heavy daily traffic.

You can grab open-top for the wallet-friendly, fast-access option, swing-top to hide contents in lobby settings, push-flap for one-hand operation, step-on for hands-free use in kitchens and restrooms, or sensor-activated for a touchless setup in executive and healthcare zones. Each style solves a different problem, so pick based on how your team and visitors actually interact with the can, not just how it looks on the showroom floor. A mismatched lid style slows people down every single time they toss something out.

You can grab side-by-side sort stations with 2 to 4 openings, each labeled for landfill, mixed recycling, paper, or compost. Aperture shapes help your team sort by feel: round for bottles, slot for paper, square for landfill. Pick your stream count against your local hauling program so you are not setting up a 4-stream station your hauler cannot actually process. Get this right up front and you save yourself a costly reorder plus the hassle of retraining staff on a station that never should have shipped.

Yes. Outdoor cans are built with UV-stabilized HDPE or galvanized steel, drainage holes at the base, anchor points for ground mounting, and a rain-bonnet or dome-top to keep precipitation out. Cigarette receptacles add a sand-filled or sealed snuffer chamber for fire safety. Do not grab an indoor can and stick it outside expecting it to hold up under weather. You will be replacing a rusted, waterlogged can within a season, so buy the version built for the elements from the start and skip the early replacement cost entirely.

Most commercial cans use standard liner sizes that match their capacity: 13, 23, 33, 44, or 55 gallon bags. Many include an internal liner ring that holds the bag taut and out of view at the top edge. Match your bag size to the can capacity when you order so the bag does not droop inside and slide down mid-shift, leaving a mess your team has to deal with. This is a small detail that saves your janitorial crew real hassle every single day of the week.

Sensor-activated cans typically run on 4 to 6 D-cell batteries with a 12 to 18 month service life under normal lobby and breakroom traffic. AC-powered versions exist for your highest-traffic zones where battery swaps would be constant and impractical to manage. Keep spare batteries on hand once the indicator light starts blinking so a lobby can does not go dark mid-week and leave visitors stuck lifting a lid by hand. Plan ahead here and you avoid an awkward manual-lid workaround in front of guests.

Commercial trash cans built to standard food-service or facility-services grade typically carry a 5 to 10-year warranty in the industry against just 1 year on consumer-grade cans, but we back yours with a Free Lifetime Warranty unless specifically noted. That covers the body, the lid mechanism, the sensor electronics where you order them, and the powder-coat or stainless finish. Buy commercial and you are covered for the long haul, not just the first year like a big-box store can, and you never have to worry about warranty gaps down the road.

Yes. ADA-compliant cans have a maximum reach height of 48 inches to the opening and operate with one hand, no twisting or tight grasping required. Sensor-activated and push-flap models meet that spec cleanly. Pick a floor-mounted, recessed, or wall-hung version to match your restroom layout, and make sure your chosen model keeps the opening within reach for a seated user. Get this right at the design stage and you will not need to retrofit restrooms later once your facility gets flagged during an accessibility review.
