How deep are standard vertical file cabinets?

Standard commercial vertical file cabinets run 25”–29” deep to accommodate the full front-to-back length of hanging letter or legal files. Letter-size folders need around 25” of clearance; legal-size folders need a minimum of 27”. Account for the full depth plus drawer-open clearance in front when placing cabinets — you’ll need the drawer’s full depth of space in front of the unit when it’s open.
